Events at the house
A small wedding
A ceremony in the garden or the parlour, a meal at the long table, and the wedding party asleep upstairs.
What a small wedding looks like here
The house takes a wedding of about thirty-five seated. What makes it work is not the parlour, which is beautiful, but the second kitchen and the fact that eleven people can stay the night — so the day does not end with a convoy of cars.
Nights held
Which nights this takes, and why
The clear-down night exists because an event finishing at eleven cannot be cleaned before a three o'clock arrival the next day. It is not an upsell; it is the arithmetic.
| Night | Why it is held |
|---|---|
| 11 June 2027, Friday | Setting up the day before |
| 12 June 2027, Saturday | The day itself — the house cannot also take an arrival at three that afternoon |
| 13 June 2027, Sunday | Clearing down, so the next changeover is not done at midnight |
three nights in total, and the day rate of $2,400 covers all of them. It is not an upsell; it is the arithmetic of a house that has to be cleaned between one party and the next guest.
What is included
What comes with a small wedding
- The house from noon until eleven at night on the day
- The night before for setting up, and the night after for clearing
- Both kitchens for a caterer to work in, with the parlour kitchen as the hot side
- The garden, with the table at ten places and standing room for sixty
- Eleven beds, which the wedding party almost always takes
- A changeover clean of the whole house afterwards
Worth knowing. The house is not a licensed venue and it does not hold a liquor licence, so drink is brought in by you or by your caterer and served by them. Nobody here can conduct a marriage. Music goes off at ten because of the neighbours, and that is a rule rather than a preference.
How many
What the house holds for this event
The house's general capacity, and where a small wedding's own seated and standing numbers sit inside it.
| What | How many | The condition |
|---|---|---|
| Seated, parlour and garden together | thirty-four | Assumes the garden is usable, which between December and the middle of April it is not. |
| Seated, the parlour alone | sixteen | The long table at its full length in a room of twenty-four by sixteen feet. This is the number to plan a February date around. |
| Seated, the garden alone | eighteen | Under and around the pergola, in about eleven hundred square feet of garden. |
| Standing, throughout | sixty | Across the parlour, the garden level and the garden. The stair is the constraint, not the floor area. |
| Can stay the night | eleven | In five bedrooms plus the loft mezzanine. There is no twelfth bed. |
Before you plan the day
Two things this house will not do
- We do not hold a liquor licence
- The house is not a licensed premises and nobody here holds a licence to sell alcohol. That is a real permission granted by the State and it is not something a guest house acquires by wanting to. What it means in practice is simple and it is not a problem: you buy the drink, or your caterer does, and there is no bar tab, no corkage and nothing sold on the premises.
- Nobody here can marry you
- Couples ask this, and the answer is that a wedding at this house is the celebration rather than the registration. The licence, the officiant and the legal ceremony are arranged by you and none of it involves this address. Many couples do the legal part elsewhere in the same week and hold the day here, and it changes nothing about how the day runs.
Enquire about a small wedding
An enquiry, not a booking. Nothing on this site confirms a date — somebody replies and the date is held while you talk it through.
