About the photographs
How these pictures were made
This house does not exist, so nothing on this site was photographed. Here is what that meant for what the pictures show and, more importantly, for what they were made not to show.
About the photographs. The photographs on this site were generated rather than taken. The house does not exist, so there is nothing to photograph, and a stock library picture of somebody else's guest house would be a worse answer. How it was done is on its own page.
A stock photograph of somebody else's guest house would have been a worse answer than an honest generated one: it would show a real building, with a real address, standing in for one that is not real. Every room on this site was generated instead, and generating a room comes with its own set of things that have to be decided on purpose rather than left to chance.
No frontage, no keypad, no appliance badge
A house has a number over its own front door, and a guest house has a name beside it, so there is no photograph anywhere on this site of this house's own frontage — no stoop shot from the street, no door with a number on it. The self check-in page describes the keypad in words rather than showing one, for the same reason a keyless lock is a rectangle of digits with a maker's name printed across the top of it.
The kitchens are shot across the worktop rather than square-on to the range, because a range, a refrigerator and a dishwasher all carry a badge, and a generated badge is invented lettering. Nothing in any frame is labelled, boxed or branded — no bottle, no packet, no book spine facing the camera, no framed print with words in it, and no notice on any wall.
Nobody is in any photograph on this site
Every room shown here is empty, on every page, including the pages for a family gathering and a corporate offsite. That is a decision about this trade rather than squeamishness, and it has a specific reason on the page most likely to make somebody ask why: the small-wedding page.
An image of “a small wedding” is the single most natural place on this whole site for a generated photograph to put a bride, a groom, a wedding party and a photographer — and every one of those faces would be invented, because there is no wedding to photograph. A picture like that would not be a photograph of a wedding at this house; it would be a synthetic photograph of somebody else's wedding, at an address that does not exist, wearing faces nobody chose to have generated. Leaving the garden and the parlour empty for that page is the only version of it that does not quietly manufacture a stranger's day and call it a sample.
It is also, separately, how this trade photographs itself even when the building is real: a venue's own listing shows the tables laid and the room ready, not the party that has not arrived yet, because a buyer is meant to imagine their own guests in the frame rather than somebody else's family. And it is an argument this site is making about itself in public rather than a rule quietly followed backstage — a crowd anywhere on this site's own gallery would have contradicted the very page you are reading.
